You may have heard that Free and Sober™ has 12 AI mentors. It's a fair question to ask what that actually means, so here's a plain answer: what they are, what they aren't, and when to reach for something else.
What an AI mentor is
Each Free and Sober™ mentor has a real face and a real voice. You can see them and hear them, not just type into a chat box. They're there any hour, including 3 AM when no one else is awake, and they're built for people in recovery from any substance. Alcohol, opioids, cannabis, stimulants, kratom, or something else: every path counts, and there's no judgment.
A mentor can help you get through a hard moment, think out loud, check in on your day, and keep going with the small daily habits that make recovery feel steadier.
What an AI mentor isn't
- It isn't treatment. Free and Sober™ is a wellness app. It doesn't diagnose, prescribe, or replace a doctor, counselor, or program.
- It isn't a person. The mentors are AI. They're honest about that.
- It isn't crisis care. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) right away.
Why a face and a voice matter
Late at night, a text box can feel like talking to nobody. Seeing a face and hearing a calm voice can make it easier to slow down, say what's really going on, and get to morning.
