01
Wanting to stop
Still drinking or using, and ready to stop. It starts with safety: when to talk to a doctor before you stop, and SAMHSA's free helpline. Then a first day, a meeting, and an AI mentor to talk it through with.
How it works
Here is the whole app, in the order you will meet it: where you start, your first 30 days, the tools for every day, and what we will never do with your data.
At launch: 3 days free, then from $12.99 a month, plus tax. Renews automatically every month until you cancel. Cancel anytime in your phone's store settings. Any substance. No ads, ever.

Inside the app
And through a hard one. Everything here is one or two taps from home. On a good day it stays quiet. On a hard day it is right there.
Essentials · free for 3 days

01
How is today going? Good, okay or hard, in one tap. Okay is enough. One day at a time.
Essentials · free for 3 days

02
Appointments, meetings, a pickup, any important reminder you choose. Reminders never say what they are for, and your milestones and the day your capsule opens sit on the same month.
Essentials · free for 3 days

03
Type a ZIP code, or a city and state. No location permission needed, and what you type is not saved. At launch, listings come from NA's meeting system, and A.A.'s own finders, its Meeting Guide app among them, are a tap away.
Essentials · free for 3 days

04
Say so, and the app thanks you for it. Call or text 988 or call 911, free and any hour. Every call takes two taps, so a pocket never dials.
Plus and Premium

05
Invite the people who have your back by email. They see the milestones you choose and can send a note, never your words, your recordings or a slip. Up to 5 people on Plus, 15 on Premium.
Where you start
Most apps start on day one. People don't. A few questions tell the app where you are, and it meets you there. You never have to pick a label.

01
Still drinking or using, and ready to stop. It starts with safety: when to talk to a doctor before you stop, and SAMHSA's free helpline. Then a first day, a meeting, and an AI mentor to talk it through with.

02
Day one to your first year. A guided first 30 days, milestones marked the way a room would mark them, and your Time Capsule on day 30.

03
Years in, even decades. Bring your full count and every milestone you already earned. A mentor to talk it out with, any hour, that takes a craving after years seriously.
Your first 30 days
Your day count is on screen within a minute. Then a few honest questions, in this order. Nothing you say here is shared with anyone.
1

A few quick questions so the app speaks your language: your name, when your count starts, and your path, if you have one.
2

What do you want back? Mornings, trust, a person. In your own words, and you will hear them again on your milestone days.
3

Up to 90 seconds to your future self, sealed until day 30. Not ready tonight? It waits on your home screen.
4

It tells you plainly what it is: “I'm an AI, not a therapist or counselor, and this isn't medical advice or treatment. It's not a substitute for clinical care.” Then it's there to talk things out, any hour.
Then, the guided 30 days
A short reading, one small action, and one question your mentor can pick up later, written for your path: AA or NA, SMART, Recovery Dharma, Celebrate Recovery, secular or none. No streaks and no missed days. A day you don't get to simply waits. Day 30 ends with your Time Capsule.

Mentor
A space to talk it out, by message on every plan, by voice from your minutes, and by video on Plus and Premium. It's an AI, not a therapist or counselor, and it says so. Five mentors have an AI-generated face and voice, and three have an AI-generated voice.

Free and Sober
Something on your calendar at 2:30 p.m.
Reminders
Your lock screen never says what a reminder is for. They live on your phone, so no push service ever sees them.

App lock
A Face ID or fingerprint lock, free on every plan. What is in here stays in here.
Widgets
A home-screen widget with your count, and your count on your Apple Watch face.
Your journal
Open the journal to today's page. Swipe back a page, or tap the date to open any day. Tap Style to change the paper and the pen, and every page you've written changes with it.

Clean ruled pages with a cloth binding and a ribbon to keep your place.
Shown in regular

Cream pages in a leather cover, with gold stitching, a gold ribbon and a clasp.
Shown in cursive

A yellow legal pad, bound across the top, with blue lines and a red margin.
Shown in bold
Pages are numbered like a book, from the first day you write. A blank page offers a gentle prompt you can skip.
Your thoughts, gratitude, or a moment that mattered, in your own words.
Your mentor reads an entry only if you turn that on for it. No organization and no one in your corner ever sees it.
If an entry mentions danger, Call 988 and Text 988 appear, right there. Your words are kept exactly as you wrote them.
Every paper and every pen, on every plan. Every entry stays yours to read, subscribed or not.
Milestones
Badges for time, milestones for your total, and Firsts for the things you do. Each one is marked the way a room would mark it, and none of them is ever taken back.
Milestone

One month.
It stays yours, whatever comes next.
“You said you wanted mornings back. Thirty of them now.”

Maria shared a milestone with you
Maria reached 30 days today, and she wanted you to know. You can send her a note. She doesn't need to reply.
Send Maria a note
The default subject line never says sobriety or recovery.
That is all it takes to add someone. They never need the app.
One invite, then nothing else until they accept. Every email has a one-click way to stop.
Person by person, add your day count or the moment your capsule opens.
No recordings, conversations, check-ins, cravings or slips. If your count restarts, emails simply pause.
Read them when you want. No reply is expected, and you can mute or remove anyone.
Removing someone stops everything that day, and they get no notice.
Your corner is never alerted in a crisis. Your trusted contact is a separate choice, reached only when you tap to call or text them.
Up to 5 on Plus, and up to 15 on Premium.
Plus and Premium
The people in your corner can record a sealed voice message, up to 90 seconds, on a web page with no app needed. It opens on one of your milestones, the one they pick: a parent's voice on day 90, a friend's on your first year. You see who sent one and when it opens, and you can delete it unopened.

Privacy
Sobriety is health data, and we handle it that way. No ads, no trackers, nothing sold. Not now, not ever.
Nothing you do here is used for advertising or sold, and this site runs no trackers.
It stays sealed until its day. The recording never reaches the AI.
If you join through a program, it sees numbers only, unless you sign to share more. Never your words or your recordings.
Milestones you pick, and nothing else. Not your check-ins, cravings, mentor talks or a slip.
Take a copy of your data, or delete your account from the You tab. Your recordings go with it.
Free on every plan, so a lost phone never costs you your count. At launch, your vault comes back with your key or your recovery key.
Free and Sober is a wellness app, not medical care. If you are in danger, call or text 988, or call 911.

Questions
Still wondering about something? Write to support@freeandsober.com and a person replies within 24 hours.
No. Free and Sober is for any substance. The mentor and the guided 30 days use the words of your path, whether that is AA or NA, SMART, Recovery Dharma, Celebrate Recovery, secular or none.
Yes. If you drink or use every day, please talk to a doctor before you stop. The SAMHSA National Helpline, 1-800-662-4357, can help you find treatment, free, any hour.
You start a new count, and your history stays: your total days and every milestone you earned. A short "I slipped" path helps you look at what happened, the guided 30 days carry on where you were, and your Time Capsule still opens on its day.
No. The mentor is an AI, not a person, and every mentor screen says so: “I'm an AI, not a therapist or counselor, and this isn't medical advice or treatment. It's not a substitute for clinical care.” It's a space to talk things out: it listens and helps you reflect, and it doesn't give advice. If you are in danger, the app brings up 988, 911 and your trusted contact straight away. For help with drinking or drugs, SAMHSA's free National Helpline is 1-800-662-4357, any hour.
You do, and the details the service needs stay readable to us, as our Privacy Policy lists. There are no ads and no trackers, and nothing is sold. Your Time Capsule never reaches the AI. Your corner sees only what you choose to share, and an organization sees counts only unless you sign to share more. Neither ever sees your words or recordings.
Essentials is $12.99 a month after a 3-day free trial. Plus is $19.99 a month, and Premium is $29.99 a month. All plans are monthly. Renews automatically every month until you cancel. Cancel anytime in your phone's store settings. Prices are before tax; sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. Crisis tools, your count, your capsules and your data stay open whether or not you subscribe.
No. Free and Sober is a wellness app. It is not treatment, and it does not replace a doctor, a counselor, a meeting or a sponsor.
