For employer wellness teams

A recovery-friendly workplace benefit that complements your EAP

Offer employees private, any-hour sobriety support for alcohol, drugs or any other substance. Share codes in a benefits email or at open enrollment. Employees redeem privately, and your company gets seat totals, not their health details.

Why it matters

48.4 million people aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in 2024, and 410 US workers died of an unintentional overdose on the job.

Privacy, BAAs and 42 CFR Part 2

We sign a Business Associate Agreement with your program, with a 42 CFR Part 2 qualified service organization addendum where it applies, or a Data Processing Addendum if you aren't covered. Employers are usually not HIPAA-covered entities. Employer programs get counts only, and individual employee data isn't shared with the employer unless the employee chooses to share it. We hold signed BAAs with AWS, Google Workspace, OpenAI and Sentry. Journals and Time Capsules are never shared with your program, the app runs with no tracking, and your program gets monthly totals, not members' words. Read our 42 CFR Part 2 notice.

FAQ

Questions from employer wellness teams

How is this different from our EAP?

An EAP connects employees to counselors. Free and Sober is a wellness app for the hours in between: daily check-ins, a guided program, milestones and AI mentors any hour. Add your EAP number in the app so it's always one tap away.

What does the employer see?

Monthly seat totals for billing and reporting. An employee's name appears only if they choose to sign the privacy disclosure in the app, and their journals, recordings and mentor conversations stay in their own account.

How do employees sign up?

Share one-time codes or a sign-up link in a benefits email or at open enrollment. Employees redeem privately and never enter payment details.

How much does it cost?

Member seats are $12.99, $19.99 or $29.99 a month by plan, with a $99 monthly minimum. Setup: $2,500 one-time. The Partner API (Connect $249/mo, Connect+ $750/mo) and Meetings ($29 per host a month) are optional add-ons. Setup and Partner API fees waived for agreements signed before 1/1/27.

Is Free and Sober treatment?

No. Free and Sober™ is a wellness app and a non-clinical resource, not medical care or treatment. It points members back to their counselors, meetings and people, and covers alcohol, drugs and any other substance.
